Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

10 In A Row - Tigers Defeat Oakland City 116-102

Jordan Forbes scored 32 points on 11-for-12 shooting and Salem University extended its winning streak to 10 games as the Tigers pulled away in the second half for a 116-102 victory over Oakland City University in NCAA Division II men's basketball Saturday at Oakland City, Ind. The winning streak is Salem's longest since the Tigers won their first 13 games of the 2001-02 season.

Saturday's contest was the second meeting between the two teams in a span of 18 hours, but unlike Friday when Salem (17-7) built a 27-point halftime lead, the Tigers had to rally to go up by a single point at the break. Forbes scored 22 of his points in the first half.

Just as he did in Friday's game, Shawn Christian hit a pair of three-pointers in the opening minute of the second half. After Forbes connected on a pair of three's, Christian hit again from beyond the arc to extend Salem's lead to double digits at 68-56.

Oakland City (8-16) got as close as nine points, but Marko Tutunovic converted a three-point play to push the lead to 76-64 with 13:04 left to play and the Tigers led by double figures the remainder of the contest. Joseph Powell's three-pointer with 6:11 remaining gave Salem its biggest lead of the game at 100-82 and put the Tigers at the century mark for the second straight game and the sixth time overall this season.

Salem led by as many as nine points in the first half before Oakland City rallied to take a 51-48 lead with 42 seconds remaining before halftime. Forbes hit a pair of free throws with 39 seconds left and after a steal by Aleksa Dobrijevic, Forbes had another 2-for-2 trip to the line with 18 seconds left to send the Tigers into the locker room with a 52-51 halftime lead.

Forbes, who connected on his first seven field goal attempts, was 7-for-7 from the line and 3-for-3 from three-point range. He also had four rebounds and four assists.

Tutunovic added 21 points as five Tigers reached double figures. Christian finished with 16 points, Malique Ross had 12 points and Stan Smith added 10 points.

Tyler Toopes, who reached the career 1,000-point mark for Oakland City, led the Mighty Oaks with 26 points.

Salem returns to action Wednesday as the Tigers play host to Alderson Broaddus University. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
