Box Score 2 Pinch-runner A.J. Marini scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th inning and
Carson Ellis retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to make it stand as Salem University got in the win column with a 5-4 victory over Cedarville University in NCAA Division II baseball Saturday at Frankfort, Ky. Ellis did not allow a hit in 2 2/3 scoreless innings to close out the game.

The Tigers settled for a split on the day after falling 9-5 to Kentucky State University in Saturday's second game. Kentucky State is hosting Salem and Cedarville for a series of games over the weekend.

Salem (1-6) trailed Cedarville 1-0 before taking its first lead of the game in the top of the fourth.
Tyler D'Alessandro drew a one-out walk and
Dalton Robison followed with a single to left. One out later,
Dominic Curole sent a 2-2 pitch over the right field fence for a three-run homer to put the Tigers on top 3-1.

Cedarville (2-3) tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth and regained the lead with a run in the sixth.

The Tigers tied the game in the top of the seventh without benefit of a hit.
Parker Lenivy was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and stole second one out later. A wild pitch advanced Lenivy to third and he came home on
Noah Suarez's sacrifice to even the score 4-4.

After an error and a walk gave Cedarville runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the ninth, Ellis (1-0) took over on the mound. A walk loaded the bases, but Ellis recovered with a ground ball to third. Lenivy threw the lead runner out at the plate and Ellis got out of the jam to send the game into extra innings.

Ellis overcame a one-out walk with a pair of strikeouts in the bottom of the 10th.

Walker Dodero drew a leadoff walk on four pitches in the top of the 11th. Marini pinch-ran for Dodero and went to second on Curole's sacrifice. Lenivy followed with a single to left and Marini came in to score when the ball was misplayed in the outfield.

Ellis struck out the first two batters in the bottom of the 11th and ended the game on a groundout to Lenivy at third.
Against Kentucky State, two errors led to a three-run fourth inning as Salem rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take a 5-3 lead. But Kentucky State erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth in the scheduled seven-inning game.

Salem concludes its four-game weekend at Frankfort Sunday with a doubleheader against Kentucky State. First pitch is at noon.
