Women's Basketball Ties School Record With Fifth 100-Point Game

Box Score Nia Bishop led five players in double figures with a season-high 27 points and Salem University matched a 25-year-old school record with its fifth 100-point game of the season as the Tigers defeated Cheyney University 103-67 in NCAA Division II women's basketball Monday at Cheyney, Pa. Aaliyah Holmes had 20 points and Precious Price added 19 points, while Endia Jones notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Salem (6-14) broke a 5-5 tie and took the lead for good when Holmes had a layup, steal and three-pointer in a span of 13 seconds. Cheyney stayed within five points until Price hit a three-pointer from the right wing with two seconds left to give the Tigers a 23-15 lead at the end of the first   quarter.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Holmes and Bishop turned a six-point margin into a 41-19 advantage and the lead never fell below 19 points the rest of the way. Tamia Tart's putback with 58 seconds left gave Salem its biggest lead of the half at 26 points and the Tigers went into the locker room with a 55-32 halftime advantage.

Price and Tart opened the third quarter with back-to-back three-pointers and the lead cracked the 30-point mark for the first time at 69-38 on Price's fastbreak layup off of Bishop's steal at midcourt with 4:47 remaining. Layups by Price and Bishop off of turnovers on consecutive Cheyney possessions gave the Tigers their biggest lead at 89-47 early in the fourth quarter.

Salem reached the century mark five times during the 1994-95 season and four times in 1995-96. The Tigers had not scored at least 100 points in a game again until this year's season opener.

Daniela Quesada finished with 12 points for the Tigers. Bishop hit 12-of-14 free throws to go with seven rebounds, five assists and six steals. Price was 8-for-10 from the field.

Gianni Hill led all players with 28 points for Cheyney, while Jamyra Maye added 22 points.

Salem is idle the remainder of this week before returning to action February 11 at Seton Hill University.
