Salem, WV – Salem University men's basketball took down Elizabeth City State University 85-69 on Saturday at home.
The Tigers were led by Tobias Howard Jr with 18 points followed by Stan Smith and Fonz Hale with 15. Rodney Smith and Barron Tanner came away with six rebounds on the night with Darius Bell contributing five. The Tigers shot 78 percent from the line and 51 percent from the field.
The Tigers built their lead to seven midway through the first half off a corner three from Howard. The Tigers extended that lead 40-23 with a 10-0 run with three minutes remaining. The Vikings battled back to cut the Tigers lead to 10 going into the half. A trip to the line by Howard gave the Tigers their largest lead of the night at 17 with three minutes remaining. The Tigers scored for the final time of the night with a free throw from S. Smith to come away with the 85-69 victory over the Vikings.
