Tigers Survive Late Rally from Allen to Close Season With Win

Columbia, SC- Salem University Men's basketball finished up the 2020-2021 season on Friday against Allen University. Salem survived a late charge from Allen in the final minutes to go on and win 88-81. Jordan Forbes led all scorers with 23 points while also adding 10 rebounds. 

How it Happened: 

First half:
- Salem controlled the first seven minutes of the game leading 15-2 at the 13:49 mark. 
- At the 12:25 mark, Salem continued to roll as Forbes took it to the hoop to put the Tigers up 20-4.
- Forbes snapped a 7-0 run for Allen as Forbes hit a fadeaway jumper with 10:43 to go in the half.
- Allen would battle to keep it close but Salem managed to keep double digit leads, still leading 36-24 with 2:52 remaining in the half.
- Allen would cut the lead to single digits but two three pointers in the final minute of the half took Salem into the break leading 45-32.

Second half: 
- Slow start for both teams to start the half as no points were scored until the 16:52 mark. Fonz Hale broke the scoring driving to the hoop and converting a layup. 
- With 9:55 to go in the half, Forbes extends the Salem lead to 69-55 with a one handed dunk.
- Over the next five minutes of play AU found a way to get back in the ball game cutting the Salem lead to eight (79-71).
- Allen would go on a run to tie the game at 81 with 1:36 left. 
- Salem would rebound to score the next seven points to hold on for the win. 

Stat Highlights: 
Aleska Dobrijevic scored a career high of 18-points, while Jordan Forbes got his fifth double-double of the year. Demaris McNeil tallied valuable minutes for the Tigers in the last few games and paid off with a career high six points on Friday. Joseph Powell also added a career high with nine points. 

Salem concluded the 2020-2021 season with a 6-6 record.
