Salem, WV – Salem University men's basketball take down Kentucky Wesleyan College in overtime 82-76 on Thursday.
Two Tigers combined for 43 points, nine rebounds and five assists: Tobias Howard Jr with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists and Fonz Hale with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists. Darius Bell secured the double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Hale started the scoring for the night with a three before back-and-forth scoring tied it up at eight at the 15-minute mark. A two-point bucket from Hale gave the Tigers an eight-point lead with two minutes left in the first half. KWC cut down that lead to four, taking Salem into the half with the 36-32 advantage.
The Panthers went on a 11-0 run to take the 46-42 lead. The Tigers answered with two back-to-back layups by Felix Gue and Hale to even the score. Down by one, the Panthers tied it up with 14 seconds left to force overtime.
The Tigers struck first and never gave up the lead, outscoring the Panthers 16-10 in overtime to come away with the 82-76 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan.
