SALEM, West Virginia - Now that the fall weather is cooperating with the Tigers, the Salem women's soccer program had a chance for their second consecutive true home game this season as the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks came to town. Salem struggled to find a groove offensively, however and fell by a score of 3-0.Â
In the first half, the Tigers started strong defensively. Unfortunately, tragedy struck early in the first half when a Tigers own goal gave Roberts Wesleyan an early lead. They then added another Redhawk goal off of a corner kick shortly thereafter, and pushed the advantage to 2-0. The 2-0 score would hold into the halftime break.Â
In the second half, the Tigers had a tough task in front of them as they tried to claw their way back into the contest. Unfortunately, the Redhawks were able to take advantage of that desperation. They added a third goal off the counter attack midway through the second half, and they maintained that lead to the final whistle to win by a score of 3-0.Â
On the stats sheet, there were still some bright spots for the Tigers. Oceane Deslauriers and Ana Caroline Lopes created scoring chances for the Tigers, and Litzi Delarosa had a strong day working on the Salem backline. In goal, the platoon system of Chloe Owens and Alexandra Issard yielded 5 saves for Salem.
While today did not go the Salem way, the Tigers have ample opportunity this week to get back on track. For example, the women's soccer team will travel to USCAA foe Washington Adventist on October 13th at 5 pm as part of a doubleheader with the men's soccer team on the same day in Takoma Park, Maryland.
