VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - After falling in heartbreaking fashion on penalty kicks on the first game of USCAA Championship pool play on Thursday, the Salem men's soccer team matched up with the Manor College Blue Jays in the final game of the USCAA Championship pool play. The Tigers played a fantastic game, and defeated the Blue Jays by a score of 3-0.Â
In the first half, Salem found their chance to take initial control of the game early on. Andrea Fincato found the back of the net for the Tigers just 19 minutes into the contest off of an assist from Ionut Rares Gaspar. Shortly thereafter, Fincato added a second goal for Salem, but this time he was assisted by Ben Lam. With those two big scores, Salem took the commanding 2-0 lead into the intermission.Â
In the second, Salem continued their dominant play as they controlled the ball for the majority of the game. Oluwaseun Babarinde would then add one more insurance goal for the Tigers, and Ben Lam would add his second assist of the day on the same play. From there, Salem would cruise to the dominant 3-0 win.Â
On the stats sheet, Salem was led by the 2 goals from Andrea Fincato. Ben Lam also had a strong day as he assisted on 2 of the 3 Salem goals. In goal, Samuel Reyna-Farje logged 2 saves in a shutout effort for the Tigers.Â
While this likely concludes the season for head coach Florin Marton's squad, Salem seems primed to make some further improvements and field yet another competitive side for the 2023 campaign.
