GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania - Looking to bounce back after their tough night offensively in Fairmont last weekend, the Salem men's basketball team hit the road for a mid-week matchup with the Seton Hill Griffins. Despite 4 Tigers scoring in the double figures, Seton Hill proved too much for the Tigers, and they fell by a score of 91-66.Â
In the first half, Salem struggled to keep pace with the Griffins offensively right from the opening tip. Justin Tene had a solid first half for the Tigers with 10 points and 6 rebounds. However, the Griffins controlled the pace of play, and controlled the scoreboard at the end of the first half 53-34.Â
After the halftime break, Salem had a tough task on their hands as they tried to scrape their way back into the game. This half was much stronger for the Tigers defensively, but the Griffins first half lead was simply too big to overcome. Despite a much more even scoreline in the second half, Seton Hill cruised to the 91-66 win over the Tigers.Â
While the game did not end with an ideal Tigers win, Salem did have some bright areas on the stats sheet. Salem played a very balanced game with 4 players scoring in double figures. They were led by Rodney Smith with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Just behind him was Riley Heatherington with 14 points, Justin Tene with 12 points, and Fope Okuyiga with 11 points off the bench.Â
Salem will be opening their home slate this Saturday, November 19th as they are set to take on the Lake Erie College Storm at 4 PM at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
