Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Kaden Shoaf

Salem Bested By Tiffin in Defensive Battle

TIFFIN, Ohio - After a strong performance over the weekend in Edinboro, the Salem men's basketball team was looking to build on that performance this evening as they took on the Tiffin University Dragons. Salem played the Dragons tough, but fell by a score of 62-57.

In the first half, Salem found themselves in a back and forth ball game from the opening tip. Each team would make a short run of a few baskets to take a slim lead, and the other would respond in kind to even the score. From there, the game settled into a defensive gridlock as neither team could find many scoring opportunities. Salem played a very balanced team game as 6 Tigers scored in the first half. However, it would be the Dragons that held a tight 36-28 lead going into the intermission.

For the second half, Salem had a tough task in front of them as they needed to eat away at the Tiffin lead with scoring chances being hard to come by. Initially, Salem seemed up to the task as they narrowed the margin to just two midway through the period. However, despite some strong shooting from Stam Smith, Salem could not quite get over that final hurdle to take the lead. Therefore, it would be the Dragons on top at the final whistle with a 62-57 scoreline.

On the stats sheet, it would be the aforementioned Stan Smith leading the way for the Tigers with 23 points, 6 rebounds, and an assist. Rodney Smith was also in double figures for Salem with 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.

While tonight's contest in Ohio did not go the Salem way, they may have better luck this weekend against ironically another set of Dragons as Virginia-Lynchburg comes to Salem for a 4 PM contest on Saturday, December 3rd.
