Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Kaden Shoaf

Tigers Best Saints to Finish Regular Season Slate

BUFFALO, New York - Fresh off their hard fought draw with Shaw, Salem men's soccer found themselves matched up with the D'Youville College Saints for their final regular season matchup of the season. Salem played well, and pulled away with an energetic 2-1 win in Buffalo.

The first half saw the Tigers get off to a great start as Andrea Fincato drew first blood with a goal in the 17th minute off of an Ionut Rares Gaspar assist. However, the Saints were a tough opponent, and came right back with a goal of their own just before the halftime break. The 1-1 scoreline held into the intermission.

After the break, Salem was determined to take back control of the game. They found that opportunity off the foot of Andrea Fincato again. This time he was assisted by Aidan Mahoney, and the Tigers took control of the game with a 2-1 lead on the board. From there, the Salem defensive unit stole the show as they kept the Saints offense at bay long enough for the Tigers to come away with a well-deserved victory.

On the stats sheet, the clear leader was Andrea Fincato with his 2 goals on the day. Kyrie Vazquez and Felipe Gonzalez also played well for the Tigers offensively. In the net, Ryan Schneider had an effective day with 3 saves.

This big win should energize the Tigers as they enter USCAA postseason play this week. They will head to Virginia Beach, Virginia to take on the Bryant and Stratton College (Syracuse) Bobcats on November 10th at 1:15 PM in the first of at least 2 games Salem will play. This will be the first USCAA playoff appearance for any Salem athletics program since joining the organization earlier this year.
