BUFFALO, New York - In the final road trip of the season, the Salem women's soccer team had a rematch with the D'Youville College Saints on the docket. The Tigers had a tough time with the Saints' offensive prowess, and fell by a score of 4-1.
In the first half, Salem had their work cut out for them early as the Saints punched a goal within the first 15 minutes of the game. From there, D'Youville pushed their advantage and were able to make 2 more shots find the back of the net before the halftime break. The scoreline held at 3-0 into the intermission.
After the break, Salem really had to try to kick their offense into high gear in order to claw their way back into the game. Despite conceding one more goal to make the score 4-0 in favor of the Saints, Salem had a glimmer of hope in the form of a Oceane Deslauriers goal off of a Marlena Mathes assist in the 66th minute. However, this spark was not quite enough to prime a big Tigers comeback, and the game played out to a 4-1 loss for Salem.
Statistically, Salem was led offensively by the aforementioned Deslauriers/Mathes combination goal. Vlora Dibrani and Litzi Delarosa also had strong games for the Tigers. In goal, Alexandra Issard logged an impressive 10 saves for Salem.
While this contest concludes the season for the Salem women's soccer team, it clearly shows that there is a strong core group of young players that will be hungry to make some big improvements in the offseason.
