SALEM, West Virginia - After a dominant victory over the Dragons of Virginia Lynchburg over the weekend, the Salem Tigers men's basketball program was ready to build on that impressive performance as they took on USCAA foe Penn State-Fayette. The Tigers offensive might was on full display as they dominated their opponent in a 109-56 blowout victory.
In the first period, Salem found their early baskets on the interior as Justin Tene and Fope Okuyiga were able to make effective use of the Tiger's size advantage to score some key buckets in the first half. Once they got the offense going for the Tigers, there was no looking back. Salem quickly jumped out to a double digit lead thanks to strong team play facilitated by Riley Heatherington and Rodney Smith. Salem would push the lead to 54-25 by the end of the period.
In the second half, the game was well in hand, and the Tigers found many of their points in the second half from key bench contributors. Walker Moreland had some key 3 point shots, and Ashraf Tchadouwa controlled the paint for the Tigers both offensively and defensively. Ryan Hurst and Kevin Kashala would also score their first points of the Tigers this season towards the end of the half. With the strong team performance, Salem cruised to the 109-56 dominant victory.
On the stats sheet, one could expect an impressive statistical display. Stan Smith had a season high 29 points to lead the Tigers. Fope Okuyiga and Justin Tene each added 15 points. The final Tiger in double figures was Ian Hardy who dropped in 12 off the bench for Salem.
After this impressive win all the way around, Salem should be energized for their next matchup. They are set to take on Virginia Union on Saturday, December 10th in Richmond at 2 PM.
