Salem, WV – Salem University men's basketball took down Davis & Elkins College 98-80 on Monday.
Tobias Howard Jr. led all scorers with a season high 38 points and seven rebounds. Howard went 13-16 from the field, including 9-10 from beyond the arc, and 3-3 from the line. Fonz Hale followed with 22 points and Rodney Smith with 14. Felix Gue led the rebounding with eight on the night.
After back-and-forth buckets to open the game, Howard made back-to-back corner threes to go ahead by four. The Senators answered with a midrange bucket before Howard hit back-to-back three again to extend the lead to eight midways through the half. The Tigers had their largest lead of the half at 21 after R. Smith found Howard in the corner for three with 41 seconds left. The Senators closed out the half with a three and buzzer two to cut the Tiger lead to 16 going into the half.
Howard once again hit the corner three to open up the second half and extend to 57-38. After five points in a row from the Senators, they cut the lead to eight midways through the half. The Tigers answered with 11 consecutive points to stop the Senator comeback and come away with the 98-80 victory.
