Philippi, WV – Salem University women's basketball fell to Alderson Broaddus University 97-91 on Monday.
The Tigers were led by Liliani Krause with 14 points and five rebounds followed by Daniela Quesada and Vantanae Garrett with 13. Kenda Stanford led the rebounding for the Tigers with seven and added 11 points.
After falling behind early, the Tigers pulled within two midways through the first quarter. The Tigers took their first lead of the night, 17-14, after a three and layup from Garrett. Both teams battled, tying the score four times throughout the quarter before AB went 1-2 on the line to take the 26-25 lead into the second.
A three from Quesada took back the lead for the Tigers, 28-26 early in the second. After a fastbreak layup from Stanford tied it 41-41 at 3:34, AB went on a 12-0 run to take the lead 53-41 with 44 seconds left in the quarter. Nerea Arambarri Fernandez cut the AB lead by two, to go into the half down by ten.
AB built up a lead of 12 with seven minutes left in the third. A trip to the line for the Tigers by Garrett pulled the Tigers within four with two minutes remaining before AB outscored the Tigers 8-2, going into the final quarter with the 74-64 advantage.
The Tigers pulled within four after a midrange jumper from Fernandez with 2:18 left in play. Two good free throws from Aleena Mongerie cut the AB lead to three but the Tigers could not get any closer, falling to AB 97-91.
