Nutter Fort, WV – Salem University baseball fell to Bluefield State College in a double header contest, 9-8 and 6-0, on Tuesday.
The Big Blue jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and added two more in the top of the second. The Tigers were able to put one on the board after Trey Hissam stayed in a rundown long enough for Brett Graham to steal home. Bluefield State added three more in the third to extend their lead 7-1.
The Tigers had a big seven run inning in the third to take the one run advantage over Bluefield State. Chase Tucker led of the inning getting to first on a hit by pitch followed by a single from Kobie Carpenter. Easy Goita doubled to center field to bring Tucker home and put runners at second and third. Scott Kondroik loaded the bases after being hit by the pitch with Brett Graham drawing the walk to bring in a run. Alex Harper singled through the left side to bring in a run a load the bases again for the Tigers. Conor Bardue hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Kondroik to cut the lead 7-5. With runners on second and third, Hissam doubled down the left field line to clear the bases and tie the game at seven. Hissam later took third and scored on an error to take the 8-7 lead.
The Big Blue scored one in the top of the seventh to tie it up and force extra innings. After Bluefield State scored one in the top of the eighth to take the lead, the Tigers were not able to bring any across the plate, falling to the Big Blue 9-8.
In game two, the Tigers fell to the Big Blue 6-0. Graham led the Tigers with two hits followed by Luis Angarita, Harper, and Bardue with one a piece.
