SB Takes Down Carlow University

Morgantown, WV – Salem University softball took down Carlow University in a double header contest 4-2 and 4-3 on Tuesday.

Game One

Elaina Esteban got the scoring started for the Tigers in the bottom of the first after a miscue from Carlow. The Tigers added another in the second to take the 2-0 lead. Carlow tied it up in the third after scoring two back-to-back runs. In the bottom of the fifth with a runner on second, Ricki Garay doubled down the left field line to take back the lead for the Tigers 3-0. Later in the inning, Mackenzie Ringer singled through the left side to extend the lead 4-2. Arianna Arroyo got the win for the Tigers, throwing seven innings, giving up one hit, two runs and nine strikeouts.

Game Two

After both teams going scoreless through the first two innings, the Tigers added two in the third. Sierra Chapa drew the lead off walk followed by a single to left field from Esteban. Syriah Trujillo put down the sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. Mesha Arroyo singled through the left side to bring in the first run. Garay flew out to right field to bring in the second run of the inning. A double in the fifth from Esteban, sparked the Tigers to add two more to extend the lead 4-0. Hedrick singled to bring in Esteban and later scored on a defensive by Carlow. Carlow tried to rally in the seventh scoring three runs, but Tiger Pitcher Emily Villar completed the save to keep the Tigers ahead 4-3.

Up Next

The Tigers will be back in action Tuesday, March 8th against University of Sioux Falls in Winter Haven, Florida.
