Morgantown, WV – Salem University softball split the day with Washington Adventist, taking game one 5-1 and falling in game two 9-6.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in game one, bringing three across the plate. After Meesha Arroyo drew a walk to put runners at first and second, Ricki Garay doubled and advanced on the throw to bring in the Tigers first two runs. Mackenzie Ringer followed with a double to left center to bring in the third run for the Tigers. Elaina Esteban showed up big for the Tigers with a triple to right center to bring two home to extend the Tigers lead 5-0 in the fourth. The Shock put one on the board in the fifth but could not overcome the deficit set by the Tigers.
Esteban led off the second game with a single to third base. Garay doubled to left field to bring in the first run for the Tigers. Later, Melanie Broderson doubled to center to extend the Tiger lead 3-0. Ashlee Hedrick followed with a single to the pitcher to bring in another run for the Tigers. After the Shock put one on the board in the top of the fourth, the Tigers answered with two of their own. The shock exploded with eight runs in the fifth to take down the Tigers 9-6.
