Softball Falls to Bowie State on Senior Day

Salem, WV – Prior to the first pitch, the Tigers honored seniors Jenna McCrary and Ashlee Hedrick for their time at Salem University.  

In game one, the Tigers fell to Bowie State 9-3. After two scoreless innings, the Tigers brought one across the plate in the bottom of the third. After Elaina Esteban led off the inning with a single, she later scored on a wild pitch. Bowie State put three on the board in the fifth to take the 3-1 lead over the Tigers. With two outs in the sixth, McCrary singled through the right side and pinch hitter Melanie Broderson drew the walk. Sierra Chapa tripled to center field to bring in two for the Tigers. Bowie State exploded with six runs in the seventh to take game one 9-3.

In game town, the Tigers took the 1-0 lead in the third. Chapa tripled to left field and followed by a sacrifice bunt from Hedrick to bring in the first run for the Tigers. The Tigers added another in the fifth. Syriah Trujillo led off the inning with a single to left field followed by Jade Turner getting hit by the pitch. After a ground out moved the runners into scoring position, Hedrick singled to right field to bring in one for the Tigers. Bowie State took the 5-2 lead after bringing home five in the seventh. The Tigers tried to rally in the bottom of the inning, but could only bring home one, falling to Bowie State 5-3.

The Tigers will travel to Malone University for a double header contest Thursday, April 21st with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
