Tigers Go 2-1 Against VSU

Petersburg, VA- Salem University baseball went 2-1 on the weekend against Virginia State University. 

The Tigers took down VSU 6-1 in game one. Both teams got on the board in the first followed by four scoreless innings. The Tigers scored five to pull away in the fifth 6-1. Alex Harper lead off with a single to left field followed by Brett Graham getting hit by pitch and a single from Jacob Barcikowski to load the bases. Brett Ehr doubled to right center to bring in two to take the 3-1 lead. A walk by Tyler Shinn loaded the bases before a ground out from Kobie Carpenter brought another across the plate for the Tigers. Scott Kondroik doubled to bring in the final runs for the tigers to take game one 6-1. Jaryd Lund threw the complete game for the  Tigers, giving up four hits, one run and striking out nine. 

Frankie Cleary earned the 7-0 shutout win on the mound for Tigers, giving up six hits, no runs and striking out eight. The Tigers got on the board early after a double from Graham drove in two. The Tigers added extended that lead 5-0 in the fourth. Ehr drove in a run after a miscue from VSU and advanced to third. Later, a single from Kondroik drove in two. Graham led off the seventh with a double followed by Harper getting hit by pitch. Conor Bardue reached on an error and collected the RBI to extend the lead 6-0. Easy Goita brought another across the plate to take game two 7-0. 

After Harper doubled to bring in two for the Tigers in game three, VSU answered with three in the bottom of the first. VSU exploded with eight runs in the fourth to pull away and take game three 11-2 over the Tigers.
