BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - In the finale of the Salem events at The Bridge Sports Complex, the Salem volleyball program took on the Alderson Broaddus Battlers. Despite three tightly contested sets, the Tigers could not quite make it over the hump and fell 3-0.
In the first two sets, the Tigers took initial strides to take control of the game as they jumped out to some early leads. The Battlers would then respond in kind, and both teams traded points down the stretch. However, Alderson Broaddus would make late rallies to take their first two sets 25-21 in dramatic fashion.Â
In the final set, the Tigers had to get aggressive in order to stay in the game. However, due to the length of the previous sets and the high energy they played with the whole way leaving them, the Tigers found themselves behind early, and Alderson Broaddus would maintain that lead down the stretch to claim the final set.Â
Despite the loss, there were some strong points for the Tigers. For example, Brianna Sotelo logged another strong day from the libero role with 17 digs. Gabriela Chaparro Coss would add 11 assists for the Tigers as well.Â
The Salem Volleyball program will get right back at it on September 1st as they are set to head up to Athens, West Virginia for another invitational tournament. They will face off with the host Concord Mountain Lions at 3 pm, and then they will take on Virginia-Wise at 7 pm.
