ERIE, Pennsylvania - The second day of the Erie Invitational proved to be a challenge for our men's water polo team. Today, they faced NCAA Division I foe George Washington, who is currently ranked 20th in the country. Even though the Tiger's effort was solid, they fell 9-23 in the contest

In the first quarter, the Tigers looked fairly evenly matched with their opponents trailing by just 2. They took a turn in the second quarter however as they conceded 7 goals bringing the score up to 3-12. Salem fought back in the last half racking up another 6 goals. However, it was not enough to overpower George Washington, who took the game 23-9. Nikola Krstonosic led the Tigers with 3 goals, 3 assists, 2 draw exclusions and 1 steal. Chad Rowley came away with 1 goal, 1 assist and 2 drawn exclusions. Marko Zivojinovic tallied 1 goal, 3 assists and 2 drawn exclusions. Ivan Zivojinovic, Blake Wind, Manuel Soto Estela, James Fenner all added one goal for the tigers.Â
This was a challenging weekend for the boys that tested their endurance against some difficult opponents. They will take their lessons from these games and apply them next week when they return to Erie for another 3 games in the Penn State Behrend Invitational. On Saturday, October 1st, They open up with Washington & Jefferson College at 2 pm, and then take on host Penn-State Beherend at 6:30 pm. The next day (October 2nd), they are slated to face a club team from the University of Florida at Noon.
