SALEM, West Virginia - After leaving Tennessee last week with a road loss, Salem was looking to get back into the win column as they played host to the Concord Mountain Lions. Salem found itself in a battle in a tight ball game, but rode a big second half to a 84-68 victory over their foes from southern West Virginia.Â
In the first half, Salem ran out a big start with Markanthony Fidelis getting the ball rolling for the Tigers with some big shots to push Salem out to a 11-6 lead. Concord came right back, and took control of the game. With the game tightly contested for the rest of the half, Salem found some scoring punch from Ian Hardy and Brandon Francois. However, the Mountain Lions still maintained a 32-30 going into the halftime break.Â
For the second half, it was still all Mountain Lions early on as the Tiger's deficit grew to as much as 9. However, this is when Salem found their offensive firepower behind the play of Rodney Smith. Smith hit four three pointers and assisted on one more scoring play in rapid succession to turn the game on its head. Salem went from a 9 point deficit to a 7 point lead in a matter of moments. With Smith opening the game up for the Tigers, Salem controlled the game, and held on tight as they grew their lead to as much as 20. With the game well in hand, Salem cruised to a 84-68 win.Â
On the stats sheet, it was a career high for Rodney Smith as he dropped in 28 points. Markanthony Fidelis scored 15 points, and Ian Hardy contributed another 10 points off the bench to road out the Tigers in double figures.
Salem should be able to use this win to propel them in their next contest as they are set to head over to Columbus, Ohio for a matchup with the Ohio Dominican Panthers at 6 PM on Wednesday, January 18th.Â
