SALEM, West Virginia - After a dramatic win over Glenville State to go into their holiday break, the Salem University men's basketball team had their third consecutive game against a local rival as they took on the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats, Salem's offensive firepower was on full display the whole afternoon, and the cruised to a 92-57 over the Bobcats.
In the first half, neither team was able to grab initial control of the game. However, the Salem scoring opened up thanks to two big three points from Markanthony Fidelis and Stan Smith. Once the Tigers took control of the scoreboard, it was pedal to the metal as they quickly ran out to a double digit lead. The hot outside shooting opened up some extra scoring opportunities on the interior for Fope Okuyiga and Justin Tene. With the Salem offense humming along, Salem cruised into the halftime break with a 50-28 lead.
In the second half, it was more of the same. Stan Smith opened up the half with more offensive fireworks, and Salem continued to seemingly score at will. Towards the end of the period, Salem even got some key buckets to seal the game away from Ata Atsuren, Walker Moreland, and Ashraf Tchadouwa. The final buzzer would sound, and Salem welcomed in the New Year with an impressive 92-57 blowout win over West Virginia Wesleyan.
On the stats sheet, the clear leader was Stan Smith who notched an impressive 12-16 from the three point line towards his career high 42 points. The other Tigers who scored in double figures were Markanthony Fidelis with 13 and Fope Okuyiga with 11. Justin Tene also had 10 rebounds for the Tigers.
Salem would be able to take in this win and continue on with their season with some momentum as they are set for a grudge match with Washington Adventist on January 7th on the road in Takoma Park, Maryland at 7 PM.
