BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - As the central West Virginia afternoon warmth transitioned into a late evening cold snap, the Salem men's soccer team played host to the Concord Mountain Lions. It was a tightly contested battle from start to finish, and Salem played well. However, it would be Concord who came out with the 2-1 win.
For the first half, disaster struck early on for the Tigers. Concord took control of the game with an introductory goal in the opening minutes. Salem had to battle back to get back in the game, and they found that chance late in the half when Ionut Rares Gaspar knotted the score off of a long crossing pass from Diego Losada that he headed in to make it 1-1. The game remained deadlocked it went into the halftime break,
After the team's got back on the field, the pressure was intense as both teams aggressively tried to take control of the game. Unfortunately for the Tigers, it would be Concord who found the final goal of the contest late in the game. With the tight advantage, the Salem comeback bid fell short, and Concord took the contest 2-1.
On the scoresheet, Salem were led in both scoring and shots by Ionut Rares Gaspar. Ben Lam and Rodrigo Ramirez also had strong days defensively for the Tigers. In goal, Samuel Reyna Farje added 4 saves on the day.
The Tigers will be back in action at home on Sunday, October 15th at 2 PM when the Wheeling Cardinals come to town for a home contest for Salem.
