SALEM, WV- The Tigers took to their home court this morning as they hosted Glenville State (9-11) for some Saturday volleyball action. Salem entered todays match with a record of 5-13.
Â
The first set opened with both sides looking fresh, even though the Tigers were without Grace Deller and captain Valentina Poti. Playing through injury Salem got down early as the Lady Pioneers got out to a 13-5 lead. Salem began to claw back, outsourcing Glenville 14-12 through the remainder of the match, but it was too little too late as Glenville took the first set 25-19.
Â
Salem struck first in the second set notching a 4-1 lead early. Glenville answered back by scoring five straight to take their first lead of the set. Glenville used their momentum to build their lead, even going on a 9-0 run at one point. Injuries began to show as the Tigers depleted bench looked fatigue and Glenville claimed set two 25-13.
Â
Salem was able to claim another early lead in set three before Glenville took their turn to answer. The Lady Pioneers depth showed as they rotated in fresh bench players to keep their momentum going. After going down 18-8 Salem began to chip away at the lead. The Tigers went on a 11-6 run to end the match, but unfortunately Glenville's early lead was too much to overcome as the Tigers fell 25-19 and dropped the third set for a match loss 3-0.
