CHARLESTON, West Virginia - Fresh off a tightly contested game against Wheeling at home, the Salem men's soccer program headed down I-79 for a rematch against the Charleston Golden Eagles. Salem fell to Charleston early on in the season, so the Tigers were looking for a little revenge. Unfortunately, they found nothing of the sort and fell to Charleston 10-0.
For the first half, the Golden Eagles struck early, and took control of the contest with 3 goals in the first 20 minutes. Salem pushed back, but found a resolute backline for Charleston made scoring chances few and far between. Then, disaster struck for the Tigers just before the half. With Charleston leading 4-0, an unfortunate Salem red card put the Tigers down and playing with just 10 men for the rest of the contest.
After the half, Salem clearly had their work cut out for them. Salem made a strong effort in the second half to battle back into the game, but it was too little too late to catch up with Charleston. The Golden Eagles pushed their advantage up to 10-0 by the end of the contest, and Salem went home with a difficult loss.
Salem will be looking to reset when they get back on the field this weekend. They are headed over to Frostburg State for a match on Saturday, October 21st at 5 PM.
