Salem Celebrates Senior Day Against Senators

BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - In the nightcap of the Wednesday doubleheader, the Salem men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with an evening clash against the Davis and Elkins Senators. The Tigers played a tight game with the Senators the whole way, but a late goal from the Senators spoiled the Tiger's evening as they fell by a 1-0 scoreline.

In the first half, neither team truly took control of the game as both teams traded runs to lead off the game. Salem got some strong offensive play from Andrea Fincato and David Teruel Nuno. However, both defenses held tough, and the game went into the intermission at a 0-0 deadlock.

In the second half, the pressure was mounting on both teams as they continued to trade offensive attacks and counter attacks. Unfortunately, it was Davis and Elkins who found the lone goal of the match midway through the second half. From there, Salem kept the energy level high as they tried to bring the game back level. However, it was to no avail as the game concluded with the 1-0 scoreline favoring the Senators.

On the scoresheet, Salem had some strong offensive play from Marcos Ayelo and Diego Losada. Defensively, seniors Ben Lam and Ionut Rares Gaspar led the Salem backline admirably. In goal, Ryan Schneider contributed 4 saves.

The Tigers ended their home slate with Wednesday night's contest, but the season is far from over. Salem heads up to the greater Cleveland area to take on the Notre Dame College Falcons on November 1st at Noon.
