BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - As a misty Sunday morning in central West Virginia entered the afternoon, the Salem Tigers women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day and played host to local rivals Fairmont State. 6 Salem seniors were honored before the game, but it would be the Falcons who came out on top with a 6-0 victory at The Bridge Sports Complex.
In the first half, Salem started out with their usual hard nosed brand of defensive play. However, the Falcons found some gaps, and took a 4-0 lead 30 minutes into the half. However, the Tigers buckled down through the off and on again drizzling rain in Bridgeport, and kept the game at 4-0 until the game went into the intermission.
After the break, Salem kept things close with some continued tight defensive play. They even found some offensive breaks behind Nashia Ali and Julia Munoz-Delgado, 2 of the seniors honored before the game. Despite the hard play, Salem could not keep up with the Falcons, and fell by a score of 6-0 in the final home match of the season.Â
On the score sheet, another senior, Sarah Cabrera, logged 10 saves for the Tigers. Offensively, Salem ran their offensive attack through Ali, Munoz-Delgado, and Natalie Jaramillo.
While this was the final home match for the Tigers, there is still quite a bit of action left in the 2023 fall campaign. Salem heads up to the greater Cleveland area to take on another set of Falcons, namely those from Notre Dame College, in their next contest. That game will be played on November 1st at 3 PM in South Euclid, Ohio.
