Tigers Stung By West Virginia State

BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - On a unseasonably warm day at The Bridge Sports Complex, the Salem women's soccer team faced off with the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State. However, it was a tough time for the Tigers, as they fell to the Yellow Jackets 11-0. The contest played out as follows:

Salem felt the Yellow Jackets' sting from the opening kick as West Virginia State scored in the opening minutes of the contest. Despite the initial blow, Salem settled into their trademark defensive style of play. The offside trap proved effective for the Tigers, and they forced West Virginia State into quite a few offsides calls. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets kept up the pressure, and pushed their advantage up to 6 by the halftime whistle.

In the second half, Salem kept the pressure on and even found a few scoring chances for Ana Luiza Ferrante and Natalie Jaramillo. On the downside, West Virginia State added 5 more goals in the period and cruised to a 11-0 victory.

On the stats sheet, Salem benefited from some good offensive play from Marina Cher and Ana Luiza Ferrante. In goal, Sarah Cabrera added 12 saves to her totals this season.

The Tigers will be back in action on the road next against the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan. They head down to Buckhannon to face the Bobcats on Sunday, October 8th at 4 PM.
