SALEM, West Virginia - Fresh off their big win over the Pioneers of Glenville State down in Charleston over the weekend, the Salem men's basketball team returned to the comfort of T. Edward Davis Gymnasium for their home debut against the Seton Hill Griffins. Unfortunately for the Tigers, it would be Seton Hill who came out on top of a tough grinder of a matchup by a score of 63-51.
For the opening half, Salem opened up the contest with two big threes from Jack Garrison IV to give the Tigers early control of the game. However, Salem could not keep that offensive output going, and Seton Hill quickly took the lead. Salem kept the pressure on with some big buckets from Khemanni Davis and Kapone Barley. Yet, it would be the Griffins who made it into the halftime break with a tight 32-24 lead in a tight ballgame on ttheir hands.
In the second half, much like the first, Salem opened up well with strong interior play from reigning USCAA player of the week Ashraf Tchadouwa and Brandon Francois. However, it was not quite enough to totally close the gap on the Griffins. Seton Hill maintained control, and despite a late Tiger rally, pulled away with the tough 63-51 win.
On the score sheet, Salem did get some strong performances despite the loss. Ashraf Tchadouwa led the Tigers with 12 points and 12 rebounds for his third straight double double of the season. Ian Hardy also added 12 points for Salem alongside 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
Even though this afternoon's contests did not end in Salem's favor, the Tigers will be back at home this weekend and looking to get a victory in front of the home fans. They should have their hands full though as they play host to the defending NCAA Division II National Runner Up West Liberty Hilltoppers in the second leg of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader. That men's contest will be played on November 18th at approximately 4 PM.
