Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Kaden Shoaf

Tigers Bested at Glenville State

GLENVILLE, West Virginia - The Salem men's basketball team met up with the Pioneers of Glenville State for the second time in this young season on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers beat the Pioneers on a neutral floor early in the season, but it would be the Pioneers who emerged victorious this time around with a 73-65 scoreline.

In the first half, the tone of this matchup was set early on. Neither team was able to take control of the game, and each side traded small runs throughout the first half. The Tigers got the majority of their scoring from Jack Garrison IV, who added all 15 of his points in the game in the first half. At the end of the first period, Salem trailed the Pioneers 29 to 36.

In the second half, the game quickly settled into the same tightly contested game that the fans at the Waco Center in Glenville saw in the first 20 minutes. Brandon Francois had a particularly strong game creating offensive opportunities for the Tigers from his 5 steals. Ashraf Tchadouwa and Kapone Barley controlled the interior for Salem, and kept the pressure on the Pioneers. Salem brought the game within 4 in the final minutes, but Glenville State was able to pull away with the tough 73-65 win over the Tigers.

Despite the loss, Salem has some bright spots on the scoresheet to build on going into their next contest. Salem was led by Brandon Francois and Jack Garrison IV with 15 points a piece. Ashraf Tchadouwa added his 5th double double of the season, with 14 point and 10 rebounds. Kapone Barley would round out the Tigers in double figures with 10 points.

Salem will continue their road swing this weekend when they face off with another local rival in the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats. The Tigers head down to Buckhannon for a Wednesday evening matchup with the Bobcats on December 6th at 7:30 PM. After that, Salem will return to the home floor of T. Edward Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, December 9th when they host the Davis and Elkins Senators at 4 PM.
