Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Kaden Shoaf

Salem Cruises to Big Win over Central Pennsylvania

SALEM, West Virginia - After a big win over Livingstone on Monday, the Salem women's basketball program came home for a Wednesday night battle with the Knights of Central Pennsylvania. A well rounded performance for the Tigers fueled them to a dominant 93-40 win over the Knights.

In the first quarter, Salem got off to a great start with a Liliani Krause layup within seconds of the opening tip of the game. From there, Salem controlled the pace of the game effectively through strong interior team defense. That lockdown defense kept the Knights from scoring regularly, and Salem grew their lead to 22-13 by the end of the period.

For the second period, Salem quickly dealt with a brief Knight rally to further grow their advantage. Daniela Quesada and Nerea Arambarri Fernandez ran the Salem offense with precision, and distributed the ball well to their teammates in peak scoring positions. That offensive efficiency allowed for the Tiger advantage to build up to 40-25 going into the halftime break.

After the intermission, Salem continued to dictate the pace of play. Elena Pericic and Anna Machytkova provided the scoring punch for the Tigers for much of the third quarter, and Salem maintained their advantage at 64-30 after the third period.

In the final quarter, Salem had clearly pushed the game into blowout territory. As the final period developed, it was clear that the Tigers could seemingly score at will. Anete Bluma and Aina Maynou each added some exciting scoring plays for the Tigers throughout the quarter, and Salem cruised to a 93-40 win over Central Pennsylvania.

On the stats sheet, the team focus of Salem's game was apparent as a total of 6 Tigers scored in double figures. Daniela Quesada led the way with 19 points. Anete Bluma was just behind her with 17 points, and both Nerea Arambarri Fernandez and Liliani Krause each added 13 points. Elena Pericic chipped in 11. Last but not least, Anna Machytkova earned a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Salem will be looking to continue this energy level in their next contest. The Salem women's basketball team will be back home in that contest as they are set to take on the Dragons of Virginia Lynchburg on February 18th at 2 PM.
