BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - After tough weather made play difficult in Salem Softball team's last contest with Malone, they were happy to take on Carlow on a comparatively calm day at The Bridge Sports Complex. It ended up being a great day for the Tiger's offensively as they swept the Celtics in both contests. Those games played out as follows:
Salem 9, Carlow 2
In the first contest of the afternoon, the scoring opened up with a Kaydee Anderson single to bring around Jazmyn Moetului in the second inning. The Tigers got on the board again in the 3rd when Eliana Esteban made it all the way home from first off of a Carlow error. Later in that same inning, Ricki Garay brought around Meesha Arroyo to bring the lead up to 3-0. In the fourth, the offensive firepower really went on full display. First, Sierra Chapa tripled to bring in Meladie LaRance, and then Meesha Arroyo dropped a hit that resulted in an inside the park home run. Carlow rallied with a couple of their own in the 5th. However, the Tigers were able to cap off their impressive offensive performance with a Jazmyn Moetului RBI triple. She then made it home on a fielder's choice play shortly thereafter for the final run of the game. Meesha Arroyo pitched a complete game for the Tigers, and notched 6 strikeouts from the pitcher's circle in the win.
Salem 7, Carlow 2
For the second game of the day, Salem got the ball rolling with a Eliana Esteban double that turned into a run when she was able to advance to home on a Celtic throwing error. After that, Carlow showed they would not go away quietly when they added two runs in the second and third innings. However, the bottom of the third saw the Tigers tally up 5 runs. Jazmyn Moetului added an RBI single, and then Jade Turner added a 3 RBI double. The final run of the inning was scored by Turner when she scored on a Victoria Castro groundout. The Tigers then added one more run in the 6th, with Syriah Trujillo bringing around Sierra Chapa on a single. In the pitcher's circle, Andrea Gallegos pitched a complete game, and struck out 6 in the win.
After this impressive day offensively for Salem Softball, they will be looking to carry that hitting power into their next contest this weekend. They are scheduled to take on the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds at 1 PM on Sunday, March 5th at the Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport.
