FROSTBURG, Maryland - With the sunny Florida weather of The Spring Games in their rearview mirror, the Salem softball team was hoping to take some newfound energy into their next round of contests closer to home. With a mid-week bash against the Bobcats of Frostburg State, they found their opportunity to do just that. However, the Tigers would come up short to Maryland in both contests. They played out as follows:
Frostburg State 11, Salem 1
In Game 1, Salem actually drew first blood in the first inning. They scored a run off a Ricki Garay sacrifice bunt to bring Elaina Esteban. Unfortunately, that is where the offensive well went dry for the Tigers. Frostburg State would take the contest 11-1 in 5 innings.
Frostburg State 5, Salem 2
In Game 2, Salem had a much tighter ballgame on their hands. Frostburg led off with a run in the 2nd inning, but Salem roared back with a 2 run 4th inning. Both runs came off the bat of Syriah Trujillo, who blasted a triple to score Jazmyn Moetului and Sierra Chapa. With the tight lead, Salem controlled the contest until the next inning when Frostburg State would put up 4 more runs. The Tigers attempted a comeback bid in the final innings, but Frostburg State pulled away with a 5-2 win. In the pitcher's circle, Salem got a strong outing from Andrea Gallegos, who struck out 2 in 6 innings of work.Â
While these contests did not fall the Tiger's way, Salem will have a chance to get back on track this weekend when they head down south to take on the Big Blue of Bluefield State for a twinbill on Sunday, March 26th at 2 PM.
