Salem Splits Double-header Against Bluefield State University

BLUEFIELD, West Virginia – Yesterday the tigers traveled to the south of West Virginia to play a double header against Bluefield State University. Salem's previous three games were against Bluefield State where the tigers recorded a clean sweep.  This time the games weren't played on the tigers turf and Salem took the first game 8-4 but dropped the second game 2-4.

In the opening game, Salem was the first to get on the board in the third inning. Kaiden Zacharias hit a double to right centre that let Brett Her, Luis Angarita and Ben Matos all score. Nathan Kuhn followed that up with a triple that let Zacharias score. The last run of the match was thanks to Alex Harper who grounded out to the Short Stop which allowed Kuhn to score. In the 5th inning the tigers were on the board again thanks to a single from Brett Her which allowed Kuhn to score. In the last inning of the game Harper hit a triple which brought home Zacharias and scored a run himself thanks to Sam Schmitt's fly out to centre field.

In the second game of the day Salem's offence struggled to see the ball like they did in the first game. In the third inning the tigers opened the scoring again with Luis Angarita hitting a single which bought home Trey Hissam. Hissam returned the favour in the 7th inning hitting a single up the middle which allowed Kuhn to score. These two runs however were not enough to top Bluefield who scored 4 runs. Several players did record hits in this game however Trey Hissam walked away with 2 hits, which gave him 3 total on the day, Kuhn, Harper, Matos and Ethyn Barnitz all recorded one hit in the last game.

Today the tigers are headed to West Chester, PA for a 3-game series against West Chester University which begins with a single game March 31st and a double header April 1st.
