PHILIPPI, West Virginia - In the third portion of three consecutive doubleheaders for the Salem softball team, the Tigers headed just up the road to Philippi to take on the Alderson Broaddus Battlers. However, the matchup did not end favorably for Salem as they fell in both contests. Those games played out as follows:
Alderson Broaddus 6, Salem 2
In Game 1, Salem was in a tough spot as the Battlers took early control of the game with runs in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th innings. With their backs against the wall, the Tigers launched a comeback bid in the 5th and 6th. First, it was a Sierra Chapa RBI single to bring in Meesha Arroyo in the 5th. In the 6th, Syriah Trujillo added another RBI single of her own to bring it within a single run. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Battlers added 3 more runs in the bottom of the 6th, and a late Salem rally in the 7th fell flat. Therefore, Salem fell 6-2 in Game 1 in Philippi.
Alderson Broaddus 7, Salem 2
For Game 2, the Tigers got off to a great start when Syriah Trujillo advanced from third on a Battler error to score the first run of the game in the second inning. Unfortunately, the Battlers put up 7 runs in response in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings. The Tigers added one more run in the 7th inning when Meladie LaRance singled to bring in Alyvia Pittman. Despite the run, Salem could not create any further rally, and they fell again to the Battlers 7-2.Â
Despite the tough day out in Phillipi for the Tigers, Salem will be back in action next week when they are set to take on another local rival West Virginia Wesleyan. They head out to Buckhannon on April 4th at 4 PM for a doubleheader.
