Salem Battles with Concord to Earn Split

ATHENS, West Virginia - After falling in two games yesterday to West Liberty, the Salem softball team headed down to Athens to take on the Concord Mountain Lions. The Tigers had two tough games on their hands down south, and came up with a win in the first contest. However, they dropped the second contest. Both contest played out as follows:

Salem 7, Concord 1

For Game 1, Salem's offense was on full display from the start. The scoring started with a Jazmyn Moetului RBI double in the first inning. In the second inning, Salem added another run from a Kaydee Anderson sacrifice bunt that a Concord throwing error turned into Meladie LaRance scoring from second. Concord responded with a run of their own in the second. However, The Tigers really took control of the game in the 4th inning. They added one more run when another Mountain Lion error allowed Alyvia Pittman to score. Salem then added another run off a Meladie LaRance RBI single in the 5th. In the 6th, Anderson scored on a fielder's choice that allowed Eliana Esteban to get on base. Esteban and Sierra Chapa then added the final runs of the game off of another Concord error. In the pitcher's circle, Salem got a complete game performance from Meesha Arroyo, who struck out 4 and allowed just one Concord run in the game.

Concord 4, Salem 1

In the second matchup, Salem had a much tougher time finding scoring opportunities. Luckily, so did the Mountain Lions as the game remained a 0-0 tie until the 4th. Concord added 3 in the 4th inning, and Salem responded with a run in the 5th. Elaina Esteban singled to bring in Alyvia Pittman, but the Tigers could not build any momentum for the rest of the comeback bid. From the pitcher's circle, Emily Villar, Meesha Arroyo, and starter Andrea Gallegos combined for 2 strikeouts for the Tigers.

With these two contests in the books and the cancelation of Salem's contests with Lincoln (PA) over the weekend due to weather, the Tigers will be off until they head down to Florida for The Spring Games. They kick off play down south on March 14th at 9 AM when they are scheduled to take on the Shepherd Rams.
