This Friday and Saturday the tigers played two double headers against Mansfield University. Salem managed to split the first two Friday games against the mountaineers but dropped both days 2 games. The first game of the series the tigers went down 2-6 however they made an impressive comeback in game 2 with a 5-0 win. Day 2 was just as competitive with the tigers only going down 2-3, then taking a 1-4 loss in the second game.

Day One
Â
In game one of the series the tigers opened up the scoring in the 1
st inning when
Luis Angarita stole home base. The next run occurred when
Ben Matos singled letting
Nathan Kuhn score. Angarita recorded 2 hits that game and
Jacob Hurley,
Trey Hissam,
Ben Matos and
Ethyn Barnitz all recorded a single hit. Game 2 of the day left the mounties completely scoreless, thanks to a brilliant 7-inning performance by
Sam Schmitt who recorded an outstanding 13 strikeouts. On the offensive side the game was opened when Barnitz scored on a passed ball that also advanced Angarita to 2
nd and
Jose Lojo to 3
rd.
Brett Ehr then tripled allowing both men on base to score. To round out the inning
Kaiden Zacharias hit a single brining home Ehr. In the 4
th inning
Sam Schmitt was on base and Lojo single bringing Schmitt home. Lojo and Ehr each recorded 2 hits in game 2 and Zacharias, Schmitt and Hissam all recorded 1.

Day 2
Â
On day two the first run of the game was thanks to a sacrifice fly out to right field by
Nathan Kuhn which allowed
Kaiden Zacharias to score. The tigers were unable to score again until the 7
th inning when Kuhn hit a home run which was not enough to catch Mansfield who had tallied 3 runs in the 5
th and 6
th inning. Zacharias, Kuhn and Lojo each recorded one hit. The second game proved to be more difficult for Salem, they scored their first and only run in the last inning when
Nathan Kuhn singled brining home
Luis Angarita. Kuhn recorded 2 hits this game and
Jacob Hurley and
Jose Lojo each had 1 hit.

Salem doesn't have much time to linger on the trials of this series as they are back in action on Tuesday in Buckhannon against West Virginia Wesleyan College at 1pm. They then play at home on Wednesday against Wesleyan again before heading to the University of North Georgia on Friday.
