Salem Storms Back to Claim NSAC Championship in Walk-Off Win

After a slim loss to the Virginia State Trojans on Friday, the Salem tigers came in hungry for the NSAC title in their following games. After triumph over Apprentice School and Mid-Atlantic Christian University the tigers would face off against the Trojans in a double header this afternoon. Being sure to stamp out any hope VSU had of the title, the tigers took them down 10-0 in the first game and then had a closer 7-6 game in the second. This gave the tigers their comeback story and they now bring home the NSAC Conference Championship trophy.

In game one of the day the tigers opened up the scoring when Tyler Shinn had 2 RBI's from a single and a sacrifice fly out brining home Luis Angarita twice. Salem scored again in the 7th and 8th inning thanks to sacrificed fly outs from Angarita and Jacob Hurley which allowed Jose Lojo and Hayes Lightsey to score. In the 9th inning 5 total runs were scored by a double from Hurley and a single from Aaron Forbes. This took the final score to 10-0 meaning that Frankie Gulko and Tyler Salmons pitched a scoreless game with 10 strikeouts between the two.

In the second game of the day Virginia State came out of the gates strong scoring 3 runs in the 1st inning and two in the 2nd. Salem answered this by scoring 3 runs in the 3rd inning when Kaiden Zacharias doubled down the right field line earning 2 RBI's and brining home Angarita and Forbes. Shinn then singled up the middle scoring Zacharias. In the 8th inning the tigers scored another 3, Shinn ran home on an error, a sacrifice fly out from Forbes bought home Lightsey and Brett Ehr scored on a sacrificed bunt. In the last inning Ben Matos walked allowing Nathan Kuhn to score which gave the game to the tigers 7-6.
