Salem Comes Up Short in Season Opener at Thomas More

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Kentucky - With the long summer months finally behind us, Salem University Men's Soccer finally got the opportunity to get back out on the field in an official capacity Thursday evening. They headed to the Kentucky side of the greater Cincinnati metropolitan area to take on the Saint of Thomas More University. The Tigers played well in their season debut, but fell to the Saints 2-0.

In the first half, the Tigers found themselves in trouble early when Thomas More found the back of the net just 2 minutes into the contest. The Tigers went right to work trying to even the score, and found quite a few chances with 9 shots and 4 corner kicks in the first half. However, it would be the Saints who found the second goal of the game towards the end of the half. Therefore, the Tigers entered the intermission with a 2-0 deficit.

In the second half, Salem kept up the pressure in order to work themselves back into the game. Unfortunately, the offensive opportunities all but dried up for the Tigers. The 2-0 deficit held, and Salem dropped the season debut to the Saints.

Statistically, Salem had a few bright spots despite the loss. Goalkeeper Ryan Schneider logged a pair of saves, and David Teruel Nuno added a pair of shots on goal.

While today's outcome was not as Salem intended, the Tigers will have a chance to get back on track on Sunday, September 3rd at 1 PM, when they make the trip down to the southern part of the state to take on the Mountain Lions of Concord University.
