Salem Concedes Tight Game To Frostburg State

BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - After a rough start to the season, the Salem men's soccer team had another chance to get back into the win column at home against the Bobcats of Frostburg State. The Tigers kept it close with the Bobcats the whole way, but a late Frostburg State goal spoiled the Tiger's afternoon as they ended up falling by a score for 3-2.

Salem got off to a great start by drawing first scoring blood in the contest with a David Teruel Nuno goal that was rifled in from just outside the 18 yard box. Frostburg responded with 2 of their own before the half, and the Tigers almost entered the intermission with a hardfought 2-1 contest. However, Mauricio Aguilar Renovales found the back of the net from a Valentin Fritz assist just before the half ended. With a tight 2-2 scoreline, both teams entered the break looking for more.

After the intermission, the game remained neck and neck the rest of the way. Salem played well and controlled the ball much of the half, but it would be the Bobcats who would find the edge late in the period off of a corner kick. Salem furiously tried to level the score in the final 5 minutes, but to no avail. Salem fell by a score of 3-2 to Frostburg State.

Despite today's tough break, Salem did have some strong play. Mauricio Aguilar Renovales and David Teruel Nuno both led the way for Salem offensively, and goalkeeper Samuel Reyna-Farje kept things close by logging a pair of saves on the day.

While they could not snag a win in this homestand, perhaps a road trip will aid the Tigers in getting back on track. Salem heads up to the northern panhandle for their next contest as they are set to take on Wheeling at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, September 13th.
