Tigers Streak Continues Against Carlow

PITTSBURGH, PA- The streak begins. Salem goes into Carlow and comes home with a W after taking care of the Celtics in five sets (3-2). The win marks Salems third this season and third in a row. After a rough start to the year the Tigers have found their footing at just the right time.

The first set was back and forth with neither side giving up a lead. The Celtics were eventually able to secure the set with a 30-28 victory in set number one of the match.

The Celtics looked to keep the upper hand going into the second set, establishing an 11-7 lead early. From there Salem answered with a 6-0 run to take a two point lead halfway through the set. As the set continued both teams appeared to be evenly matched, trading points back and forth. The Tigers were able to pull out a win in the end with a 25-23 victory to tie the match at one set a piece.

Set number three proved to be a game of runs. Both teams reeled off runs of three or more points in a row with neither able to consistently get stops on the defensive end. This was another one that went down to the wire with the Celtics coming out on top 25-22.

Down two sets to one Salem needed a win to stay alive. They say backing a tiger into a corner is never good and this set was a great example why. Salem's offense was clicking the entire fourth set as they cruised to a 25-16 win and tied the set at two games a piece.

Final set. First to fifteen wins the match. The Celtics jumped out in front early, establishing a 9-5 lead, and the punches didn't stop there. Carlow continued to apply pressure, getting the set to game point up 14-8. The Tigers decided to takeoff and didn't look back. They ripped off an 8-0 run to close the set and win 16-14 to take home the win in enemy territory.

After tonights win the Tigers are 3-6 with wins coming in each of their last three games. The Tigers next game is set for Friday, September 22nd against Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WV at 7:00 pm.
