GLENVILLE, West Virginia - The Tigers went on the road for the first time this season to take on the Glenville State Pioneers in just their second game of the regular season. The match went down to the wire, lasting 5 sets. Unfortunately however the Tigers were unable to pull off the win moving their record to 0-2 on the year after their loss to the Pioneers. Despite the loss Salem once again showed improvement on the court.

The first set was one that kept fans on the edge of their seats with both teams refusing to go away. Salem pulled out to an early lead going up 8-5. The Pioneers would respond with a 4-0 run to grab a one point lead at 8-9. From there the set went back and forth with each team trading runs of 2 and 3 points. It was the Tigers in the end who were able to walk away with the first set 26-24.

Salem continued the trend of getting the early advantage by jumping out to a 6-3 lead in set number 2. Glenville State kept the door open by staying with the Tigers late into the set. With a 2 point Salem lead and not much time remaining, Glenville turned the tide. The Pioneers scored 7 unanswered points to grab a commanding 24-19 lead. They would go on to win this set 25-20 tying the match at a set a piece.

Going into the third set both teams knew it was anyones game. Glenville learned from their past mistakes by not letting themselves get down early. They scored the first 3 points of the third set and coasted a little from there. With Salem in reach midway into the set Glenville turned the heat up, going on a another 7 point run to put themselves firmly in the driver seat with a score of 20-8. Both teams ended the set evenly scoring 5 a piece, but the Tigers had just too little too late dropping their second set in a row 25-13.

Down but not out the Tigers rallied in the fourth set. The fourth set remained like the match as a whole had been to that point. Back and forth tightly contested. Glenville scored a point to get it within 1 point at 14-13 and the Tigers started running with it from there. They scored 6 of the next 7 points in the set to grab a commending 20-14 lead as the set began to come to a close. The Tigers were able to hold on, securing a win 25-21 and tying the match at 2-2.

The Tigers were unable to stop Glenville State in the early stages of the crucial fifth set and it ended up being the difference in the outcome. The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after which both teams scored evenly with each other the rest of the final set at 11 points a piece. The Tigers fought hard but fell 15-11 and lost the match overall 3-2.

McKenzie Clyncke led the team in kills tonight with 9. Noemi Combi had a strong showing, leading with team in aces and blocks with 4 and 2 respectively. Trinity Eliasen had her fingerprints all over this one with 12Â assists and Alayna Cox came ready to play with 17 digs. The Tigers will be back at it September 6th taking on the Pioneers of Point Park University in Pitssburgh, Pennsylvania at 6:00.
