SALEM, West Virginia - Fresh off their big win down in Gilmer County last week, Salem's volleyball team was excited to get back on their home floor on Tuesday night. The Tigers played host to the Warriors of Appalachian Bible College, and Salem put together another strong performance to come away with the 3-0 sweep.
In the first set, Salem overcame a sluggish start and took control of the contest with a 8 point run with Cyniah Winston serving. From there, Salem wrapped up the set with another pair of strong showings at the service line from Arianna Parsley and Kayla Holbrook. The Tigers claimed set 1 25-17.
For set 2, Salem got going quickly with a 7 point run thanks to good offensive play from Valentina Poti. Salem was simply cruising, and uncorked a 10 point run right after that to make it 17-1 late in the set. The Warriors made a valiant comeback effort, but Salem cruised to a 25-10 win in set 2.
For the final frame, Salem kept the pedal to the metal by jumping out an early lead behind kills from Noemi Combi and Sydney Kopshina. The Warriors kept things close for a time, but Salem was simply too hot to handle. The Tigers got some solid play from Hailey Haynes and Jocelyn Rions on their way to a 25-17 set win, and therefore the 3-0 sweep.
On the stats sheet, Katie Kennedy had a huge night with a total of 22 assists along with 3 service aces. Makenna Long led Salem with 12 kills, and Kayla Holbrook locked things down defensively with 14 digs.
The Tigers get to enjoy the benefits of home cooking with 3 straight home games. The second leg of that home stand will be on Friday, October 24th at 7 PM when the Tigers take on the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State.
