FROSTBURG, Maryland - After the first matchup with the Bobcats at home last night, the Salem Volleyball made the return trip to Frostburg State this evening for a rare back to back rubber match. Unfortunately, the second shot the Tigers had at the Bobcats did not yield a better result, and Salem fell in 3 sets.
For set 1, the Tigers struggled to get the offensive attack going early on as they quickly fell behind Frostburg State. However, they quickly regrouped to keep the pressure on the Bobcats on their home floor. Jocelyn Rios opened the set well with a pair of kills, but it would not be enough to overcome the Bobcat advantage. Therefore, Salem fell 25-9 in the first set.
In the second set, Salem finally got the offense going thanks to a resurgent performance from Sydney Kopshina. However, it still would not be enough to wrestle control of the contest away from the Bobcats, and Salem fell 25-16 in set 2.
The final set ended up looking very similar to the first set. Frostburg State opened up the set well, and Salem struggled to keep pace with the Bobcats. The Tigers still made a valiant effort at the comeback behind some strong play from Noemi Combi. Yet, Salem dropped the third set 25-9, and therefore the contest 3-0.
From the stats sheet, Salem was led offensively by 4 kills each from Noemi Combi, Hailey Haynes, and Jocelyn Rios. Kayla Holbrook racked up 11 digs for the Tigers, and Katie Kennedy earned 7 assists on the night.
In their next contest, the Salem volleyball team will return home for a rivalry game matchup against the Falcons of Fairmont State on October 8th at 7 PM in T. Edward Davis Gymnasium in Salem, West Virginia.
