Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Kaden Shoaf

Salem Outpaced By Mountain Lions in Athens

ATHENS, West Virginia - The Salem men's soccer team joined their female counterparts in a trip down to the southern part of the Mountain State today for a doubleheader matchup with the Concord Mountain Lions. The Tigers made the trip down to Athens looking to get back on track after their home loss. Unfortunately, Salem found the offensive opportunities few and far between, and therefore the Mountain Lions emerged with the 3-0 victory over the Tigers.

In the first half, both teams traded offensive chances early on, but neither found any solid offensive chances. The game quickly devolved into a defensive gridlock, and the contest held a 0-0 scoreline into the second half thanks to some solid play from the Salem backline.

For the second half, that backline held fast for the first 10 minutes, but the Mountain Lions were finally able to find a gap in the Tiger defense with a goal. Concord then punched in one more shortly thereafter, and Salem truly had their backs to the wall. Salem made a furious effort at finding one of those scoring chances of their own, but it would not be enough for the Tigers to overcome the Concord advantage. The Mountain Lions found one last goal off a corner kick in the final moments of the contest to send the Tigers away with a long drive home and a 3-0 loss.

On the stats sheet, it was a tough day of the Tigers offensively with just a total of 3 shots in the contest. In goal, Josh Hills tallied up 4 saves in goal for Salem.

Salem returns home to The Bridge Sports Complex in their next contest where they had the tough task of hosting regional power Charleston on Wednesday, October 9th at 7:30 PM.
