ELKINS, West Virginia - With just a handful of contests left on the 2024 schedule for the Tigers, Salem's volleyball team took a quick trip over to Elkins this evening for their second contest against the Senators this season. It was a competitive match throughout, but the Senators were able to send the Tigers away with a 3-0 loss.
In the first set, Salem opened things up well with opening kills from Hailey Haynes and Sydney Kopshina. The Senators battled right back, and we had a back and forth contest for a while. Unfortunately, a late Senator push doomed Salem in set 1 25-16.
For the second set, neither team truly took control of the contest as each traded slim leads early on. A good run at the serving line by Arianna Parsley put the Tigers up 16-12 midway through, but the Senators used their home court advantage well to build another late rally to take the set 25-19.
With their backs against the wall, Salem had to throw everything they had at the Senators in order to find an edge. They were able to build up a small lead behind strong play from Valentina Poti and Tahnee Gerard, but yet another Senator surge gave Davis & Elkins the set 25-21, and therefore the contest 3-0.
From the scorebook, Salem was led by Noemi Combi with 6 kills and a service ace. Valentina Poti led defensively with 9 digs, and Arianna Parsley chipped in 10 assists.
Despite the loss, Salem still has some time to get things back on track before the season wraps up. They head to Fairmont State on Monday, November 4th for their next contest. That match is set for a 7 PM start up in Fairmont.
