Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Kaden Shoaf

Tigers Outpaced by Bloomsburg

INDIANA, Pennsylvania - In the second leg of their stay at Indiana (PA)'s regional tipoff event, the Salem women's basketball team took on the Bloomsburg Huskies on Sunday afternoon. Salem kept things competitive, but a slow offensive day saw Salem fall to Bloomsburg 68-43 in the neutral court contest.

To open the game, Salem needed a strong start offensively, and they got it behind an opening basket from Carine Pinkney, and then a big three pointer from Carmen Vasquez. Bloomsburg responded with a run of their own, and we ended the quarter with a tight 16-10 ballgame favoring the Huskies.

In the second, Taja Stephens got things going for Salem with some strong outside shooting, but that is where the offensive issues began to arise for the Tigers. Pinkney was the only Tiger to score for the rest of the quarter, and Salem went into the break trailing 39-29.

For the third quarter, Salem kept the pressure on by relying on the solid inside play from Liliani Krause. However, a late Bloomsburg surge put the scoreline at 56-33 favoring the Huskies going into the fourth quarter.

In that final frame, Salem needed a big offensive showing to work themselves back into the contest. Kamryn Ruffin and Brooklynn Medina did some strong work for Salem throughout the period, but it would not be enough for Salem to overcome the Bloomsburg lead. Therefore, the contest ended and Salem was sent home with the 68-45 loss.

Statistically, Salem was led by 13 points by Carine Pinkney. She was followed by 7 points each from Carmen Vasquez and Liliani Krause. Vasquez also finished just short of a double double with 9 rebounds.

Despite today's setback, Salem will have ample opportunity to get back on track this week. They hit the road to take on Cedarville Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, November 13th at 5:30 PM in Cedarville, Ohio.
