SALEM, West Virginia - After a tough contest on the road earlier in the week, the Salem women's volleyball team wrapped up their 2024 season this evening. They hosted the Point Park Pioneers in a tightly contested home tilt that resulted in the Tigers falling in 3 sets.
The opening set saw Salem matchup up extremely well with the Pioneers. Both teams traded slim leads throughout the set, and went point for point down the stretch. A late kill from Makenna Long gave Salem a 26-25 advantage late, but the Tigers were unable to shut the door on the Pioneers. The Point Park rally stung the Tigers into a 30-28 defeat in set 1.
In the next set, Salem had a tough time getting the offensive attack moving initially, but got a spark off the bench from Sydney Kopshina that fueled a comeback bid that kept the pressure on the Pioneers. Unfortunately, the initial offensive woes were too much to overcome, and the Tigers dropped set 2 25-17,
In the final frame, Salem was plagued by another slow start offensively. The Tigers battled back though behind some strong showings from Tahnee Gerard, but again the comeback was too little too late. Therefore, Point Park took set 3 25-18, and therefore the contest 3-0.
Statistically, Salem was led offensively by 8 kills from Makenna Long. Defensively, Sydney Kopshina tallied 11 digs. Arianna Parsley also had an impressive night as she racked up a staggering 25 assists in the contest.
This matchup concludes the 2024 fall slate for the Tigers. However, the strides made on the court this season should set up Salem well for success in the offseason preparations for the 2025 campaign.
